Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Breast Screening and Symptomatic Team at Dorset Breast Screening Unit in Poole Hospital.

The Dorset Breast Screening Unit (DBSU) as part of the University Hospital Dorset Trust screens approximately 43,000 women per year as part of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme. The Trust also provides symptomatic services based at Poole and the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital's.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and service-focused individual, willing to work with a wide range of disciplines and professionals at all levels within the organisations. Full details of the role can be found in the job description and person specification documents.

Base Location: Poole Hospital - Dorset Breast Screening Unit

Main duties of the job

  • Assisting Consultant Radiologists acting as a chaperone with procedures under ultrasound guidance such as biopsies, drainages and aspirations.
  • Inputting data into the department computer systems such as the Radiology Information system (RIS) and the image archive system (PACS).
  • Assisting patients to prepare for examinations by helping them undress and explaining the procedure to them whilst maintaining privacy and dignity.
  • Performing basic nursing duties and care of the patient including dealing with bodily fluids, occasionally taking observations etc.
  • Preparing procedure rooms for the forthcoming patients by laying up sterile trolleys.
  • Liaison with other wards, departments and staff members to arrange patient appointments/care.
  • To assist all health care professionals with all working practices in order to ensure an efficient and safe standard of practice.
  • Assist radiographers, consultant radiologists and breast clinicians to ensure the smooth passage of clients/patients through clinics.
  • Ensure examination rooms and surrounding areas are kept clean, tidy and well stocked.
  • Check laboratory specimens for accurate labelling and deliver specimens to Pathology.
  • Maintain and order supplies including laundry, consumables and pharmaceuticals.

COURIER SERVICE

  • To partake in the DBSU courier service transporting paperwork and supplies to the mobile screening vans, using the department lease car.
  • Have a clean and full driving license in order to partake in the above.
