Job summary

An exciting and rare opportunity is now available for a dynamic, forward thinking and innovative pharmacist to help shape the future of neurology services in Dorset as our Consultant Pharmacist in Neurology.

As the first of its kind we are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced neurology pharmacist who can support the trust and wider system in ensuring the best outcomes for our patients. If you are looking for the freedom and flexibility to develop a clinical leadership role in neurology this is the role for you.

Applications are encouraged from both existing consultant pharmacists & aspiring pharmacists looking to be accredited in the next 12-24 months. The post is also in the process of being submitted for RPS approval for recognition as a Consultant Pharmacist position.

Pharmacists yet to complete their credentialing would join as Lead Pharmacist (band 8b) for Neurology and once credentialed would move up to a band 8c & be awarded the Consultant Pharmacist Title.

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospital

Main duties of the job

  • To be the recognised lead expert, clinical pharmacist in neurologyworking within the trust and across the Dorset System to drive, develop and advance cancer services and ensure the best experience and outcomes to patients.
  • Responsible for leading the delivery and development of a proactive, high quality, cost effective, safe and responsive pharmacy clinical neurology service.
  • To contribute to improving health outcomes for Dorset wide neurologicalpatients using a holistic approach to care, ensuring the safe and effective use of medicine through provision of medicines-related aspects of patient care.
  • To act as a mentor and role model as an expert neurology clinicalpharmacist; manager and leader.
  • Supporting and leading education, training, auditing and research in neurology services across the Dorset system.
  • To support the medicines optimisation agenda in neurology ensuring adoption of National standards, NICE guidelines, commissioningrequirements and medical and non-medical prescribing.
  • To provide pharmacist lead prescribing clinics for complexpatients, initiating new patients, completing annual reviews andsupporting the introduction of new therapies.
  • To build working relationships and negotiate with senior and executive officers within and outside the Trust (including consultant medical staff, Dorset ICS, NHS England and other healthcare organisations) to realise opportunities and benefits to the health economy that are available from joint working.
