Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join University Hospital Dorset NHS Trust as a Head of Medical Staffing. You will be a key player in our leadership team, providing senior leadership and direction to the medical workforce department in line with the Trust's people strategy.

The Head of Medical Staffing will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team and provide professional expertise and an inclusive leadership style to maximise efficiency and overall effectiveness of the services.

We are looking for an individual with drive and passion to lead our small friendly team. Educated to masters degree level/MCIPD (or equivalent experience) supported by the experience, qualifications and skills to make an immediate impact and add value to our organisation (see person specification).

This post is predominantly based at Poole Hospital with regular visits to our nearby Bournemouth Hospital and other sites as necessary. Working from home is available 1-2 days per week.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the day to day running of the Medical Staffing service, providing leadership and management to a team that includes Employee Relations, Doctors in Training, Medical Revalidation and Job Planning.
  • Work in partnership with senior medical leaders to drive the medical workforce agenda across the Trust, acting as the medical lead on workforce related projects.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on the application of and compliance with the Maintaining High Professional Standards policy and procedure, overseeing all medical conduct, capability and ill health cases including supporting the management of highly complex cases up to and including Employment Tribunals.
  • Provide senior level of expertise and guidance on all medical and dental matters, best practice and employment law changes.
