We are excited to advertise this newly created post following the collaboration between
UHD and AECC University College, Bournemouth. The successful candidate will have responsibilities in supporting Radiography students whilst on clinical placement and in the academic setting. To achieve this, the successful candidate will work at the UHD Radiotherapy sites and at the AECC University College campus.
We are looking for a practitioner who is passionate about providing the best learning experience and environment for pre-registration students in both academic and clinical environments. The post-holder must be self-motivating and able to manage their own workload. They must have current clinical experience in a modern radiotherapy department and experience of or a passion for education and support of students.
Applicants must be educated to DCR(T) / BSc Hons or equivalent and be registered with the HCPC and be willing to complete a relevant higher education teaching qualification if one is not held. Funding will be provided.
Both institutions are committed to continuing professional development and all staff have a personal development plan which is reviewed annually. It will be expected that the successful candidate will be willing to undertake further education as required to advance their practice in line with service requirements.
Main duties of the job
The radiotherapy department is situated across 2 sites in Dorset, Poole and Dorchester. The department uses the latest equipment which includes 4 Varian Truebeams with SGRT, 2 x CT scanners, superficial skin treatment unit, a Brachytherapy service and a radiographer led review service. The department continues to evolve and develop practice and techniques to improve the outcomes for its services users. The department has a proven record in producing highly trained and caring therapeutic radiographers

To deliver accurate radiotherapy treatment/planning to the highest standards for individual patients attending the department and to participate in the supervision of students on the units.
To provide first line advice for patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment and to signpost to relevant support services
To be able to fully utilise all equipment available in the area assigned to.

- In collaboration with both organisations, plan and coordinate practice placement allocations within agreed capacity.
- Work in partnership with the therapeutic radiography team to ensure that training programmers are delivered, and competencies assessed in practice.
- Participate in the delivery of clinical simulation and professional development education and training
- Participate in the development of clinical competencies
- Participate in formative and summative assessment for pre-registration students
- To carry out a portfolio of work in line with Trust risks and priorities as determined by the Practice Development Group.
- In collaboration with the therapeutic radiographers manage, facilitate and evaluate programmes of education for staff and students
- In collaboration with senior staff both from within Radiotherapy,AECC UC and the Education and Training Department, coordinate, plan, deliver and evaluate evidence based education programmes to ensure high quality patient care
- To work with the Radiotherapy Management team to enable clinical practice staff to uphold safe, evidence based current and competent practice
- Work with Radiotherapy Management team to uphold strategies to encourage compliance in essential core skills training and return on investment
- Work with Radiotherapy Management team to uphold strategies to promote attendance on education and training courses including blended approaches in the practice setting.
- Role model the delivery of high-quality evidence based patient care
- Identify gaps in clinical practice care guidelines and raise through the Practice Development Group.
- To ensure confidentiality at all times in particular during clinical skills and simulation training of sensitive topics and ensure full debrief following simulation
- To operate Radiotherapy equipment, Linacs, Brachytherapy, Orthovoltage and CT scanner on a rota system, working under the supervision of Band7 radiographers or above and as part of the clinical team.
- To deliver high quality radiotherapy treatment/planning of patients on the units as prescribed by the Clinical Oncologist.
- To ensure a high standard of patient care through the application of appropriate procedures, good communication and liaison.
- To recognise when advice of a senior member of staff should be sought and to take appropriate action.
- To maintain accurate and detailed records of all treatments given, adhering to departmental protocols.
- To accurately and competently participate in data entry onto the departmental computerised treatment management system.
- To participate in rotation to the satellite unit in Dorchester to cover service as required.
- Ensure compliant with trust and department training.
- Take part in in provision of Emergency On Call service on Bank Holidays and weekends
- Meet the regulatory responsibilities defined for an operator as delegated by the Trust under the IR(ME)R regulations.
The successful candidate will be required to participate in the on-call service for emergency patients at weekends and bank holiday
