The Education and Training Department within University Hospitals Dorset have recently expanded their simulation training facilities and are looking for an innovative and dynamic Simulation Technician to join the team where full training will be provided. This is an exciting and rare opportunity.
As a Simulation Technician you would be an integral member of the clinical education simulation team, supporting the provision of high-quality simulation-based education for our clinical teams to promote safe patient care. Your day to day role will be to provide operational co-ordination of all technical aspects of education within the simulation, clinical, classroom and virtual learning environments. You will provide technical and administrative support to the clinical educators for simulation in the planning, set up and delivering of simulation based clinical education in our modern training facilities.

Main duties of the job
The Education and Training Department is a large team providing clinical and non-clinical education across all three sites of University Hospitals Dorset. The role will be predominately based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site however, cross-site working will be expected. Facilities include state of the art Simulation Suites, with high-fidelity patient simulation mannikins and computer technology, and a Simulation Ward incorporating audio visual technology enabling live streaming to other locations.
We also operate lecture theatres, large clinical skills training rooms, seminar rooms and a dynamic conference room. All our facilities are linked through Microsoft Teams and deliver blended learning opportunities to our users. Training is enhanced using a variety of mannikins, anatomical task trainers and mixed reality headsets.
You would also be responsible for the following:
- Audio-visual, multimedia teleconferencing and IT technical support
- Maintenance and supported use of simulation and technical equipment, including stores and consumables
- Application and removal of Moulage make-up (special effects)
- Social media and simulation intranet pages
- Management of the simulation booking process in conjunction with the team
- Diagnose and repair minor technological faults
- Management of simulation equipment in terms of maintenance, set up, calibration, co-ordinating servicing and repairs, and ensuring safe use
