We are looking for a motivated and experienced CRM cardiac physiologist who would like to join our passionate and patient focussed team here at University Hospitals Dorset. We are extremely proud of our cardiac intervention services comprising of 4 Catheter Labs - including a dedicated EP Lab (with a second equipped for EP procedures) and a Pacing Theatre.

Main duties of the job

We provide an Electrophysiology and Device service for a population of 1 million and our Brady pacing service and ICD implantation rate make us one of the largest Device centres in the UK. Our services are supported by 12 Consultant Cardiologists, including 5 specialist EP Consultants and 6 clinical fellows. We have a highly specialised team of CRM Consultants and Physiologists and are looking to expand this with the addition of a new key member.

We perform simple Brady, Tachy and complex device implantation and follow up including conduction system pacing, non physician led ILR implants, S-ICDs and simple system extractions and regularly participate in clinical research. We have a growing remote monitoring service following the addition of PPMs to our existing remote cohort.

The successful candidate will ideally;

  • Perform all types of Brady pacing, Tachy and complex device implants and follow up (ICD, CRT-Ds) independently, including S-ICDs and remote follow up.
  • Have or be working towards achieving professional qualifications e.g. BHRS/IBHRE (formerly HRUK/NASPE).

Whilst this position is specialising in CRM, experience in a wide range of cardiac investigations is desirable and encouraged. There will be a requirement to participate in the CRM on-call service or PCI on call service as required. Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Cardiac Physiology or equivalent

Desirable

  • Highly specialist knowledge of Clinical Physiology in at least one area to Masters level or equivalent (e.g. have or be working towards BHRS/IBHRE/EHRA accreditation).

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a post registration Cardiac Physiologist.
  • Will have a minimum of 2 years' experience in the implantation and follow-up of complex pacing and ICD devices to include Biventricular optimisation.
  • Independent practitioner in all types of device implantation and follow up
  • Will have previous experience of staff supervision
  • Will be an independent practitioner in all cardiac investigations particularly, exercise testing, cardiac catheterisation and pacing.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of clinical audit and appraisals.
  • Previous experience with service developmental projects.

Personal attributes

Essential

  • Organisational and planning skills including own workload in an unpredictable and busy environment
  • Will have effective written and verbal communication skills and fully understand the clinical care environment and the needs of patients
  • Capable of supervising staff, delegating and prioritising
  • Confident at liaising with medical staff/ technical/ nursing staff and managers
  • Able to deal with conflict
