Main duties of the job
This clinical-academic post integrates with a clinical nursing post within University Hospitals Dorset, as leading the Clinical Practice team (0.5 fte job share) and an Associate Professorial role (0.5 wte) within the University, based in the Department of Nursing Science.
The focus of the clinical element is operational leadership of the clinical practice team and the associated portfolio, leading on a programme of work to support the provision of clinical nursing practice within University Hospitals Dorset which is safe, evidence based, and upholds the trust values.
The focus of the academic element is leading research development within the area of clinical nursing relevant to our Research Centre, Nursing for Long-Term Health, and research-capacity building bridging development across the nursing teams from both organisations.
About us
We are now looking for an Associate Professor of Nursing Practice in the Department of Nursing Science based at the Lansdowne Campus.
The postholder will be attached to the Research Centre, Nursing for Long-Term Health. The Department hosts this Centre and provides a good research foundation with a track record for income generation through several research centres, including this Centre that examines nursing practice, workforce, and education, but is focused on supporting long-term health.
The Department conducts innovative and impactful research addressing societal needs, through the inter-disciplinary opportunities available at Bournemouth University and University Hospitals Dorset; we are keen that this is targeted around clinical development and innovation through nursing practice.
The Department is comprised of about 95 staff, of whom about 20% are Lecturer-Practitioners. Its community also includes approximately 2000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the three fields of nursing (Adult, Mental Health, Children's and Young peoples) and a substantial CPD portfolio and has strong links with Health care providers in the region.The educational element of this role will focus on Postgraduate Research (mainly doctoral) supervision.

As Associate Professor of Nursing Practice, the successful applicant will have a strong track record in research and scholarship in the discipline of Nursing, and some experience of postgraduate research supervision. You will be expected to support and develop the research capacity and capability amongst the nursing teams within the Department and the University Hospitals Trust. You will also make a significant contribution to professional practice engagement with the NHS and relevant internal and external health care and academic organisations, at a regional, national, and international level.
Within UHD you will lead the clinical practice team fusing you academic, clinical knowledge and expertise to move forward the team focussing on reducing variation in practice across UHD. Using your leadership and management skills by providing line management, professional and clinical leadership to the Clinical Practice Team (Falls Prevention, Moving & Handling, Tissue Viability, Leading the development and implementation of a new model nursing within UHD. Leading and establishing a governance framework for the provision of high-quality policies and procedures.
You will also be qualified to Doctorate level and hold a professional qualification in a relevant field of Nursing. You will have demonstrated national and global research leadership and you will be committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement and research-capacity building within nursing. Your research activity will have close alignment to nursing and long-term health.
