Job summary

The successful candidate will join our team of 11 Consultants, 2 Associate Specialists, 2 NNT Specialist Registrars, 3 clinical fellows, 4 Nurse Practitioners and 5 Urology Cancer Nurse Specialists.

The Royal Bournemouth Hospital is the designated Urological Cancer Centre for Dorset. The Urology department including a 26 bedded Inpatient Unit and separate Day Surgery Unit currently offers a full range of services for East Dorset including major open oncological surgery, robotic surgery (pelvic and upper tract), upper tract and pelvic laparoscopy, percutaneous and endoscopic stone surgery, and modern BPH surgical options.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to work as a Specialty Doctor at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

The post would be ideal for those who wish to consolidate their clinical experience in Urological Surgery, with day to day practice being independent with consultant cover available at all times as required. The post holder should be proficient and independent in performing flexible cystoscopy, core urological surgery, and managing patients presenting to the Outpatient Service with General Urological Conditions. There is scope for focused subspecialty practice and development; with previous post holders gaining significant experience in robotic prostatectomy for example, but similar opportunity exists with upper tract laparoscopy and advanced stone care as any candidate would prefer.

There are currently 5 urology middle grade doctors, with a Urology Consultant of the Week. There are imminent plans for expansion to 8 middle grade urology doctors. Depending on the successful applicants experience, there would be the opportunity to be associated to the middle grade or consultant oncall rota. Both rotas will require non-resident out of hours working.
