Job summary

The Head of Nursing and Professions role is a newly formed role which will increase capacity of senior nursing and professional clinical leadership within the Specialities Care Group. This role has been in place for two years across the other two clinical care groups and will complete the senior leadership team. This is an exciting time to join the Trust and the Care Group as the new hospital programme has commenced and plans are underway for moving clinical services in 2024.

The Specialties Care Group consists of a diverse range of specialised clinical inpatient and outpatient services and also provides a number of Corporate services to the whole organisation. This includes, Cancer Care, Palliative Care, ( including two hospices) , Outpatients and Treatment Centre, Research, Therapies, Pathology and Pharmacy ,Maternity , Child Health , Phlebotomy and Radiology. This is based over 4 hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will report into the Care Group Director of Nursing (GDON) and work closely with the Care Group Triumvirate significantly contributing to the strategic direction and policy setting for the Care Group. The role will also form an essential communications link with wider nursing/ professions teams (Allied Health Professionals/Health Care Scientists) and the Associate Director of Allied Health Professionals and Health Care Scientists;

Under the Direction of the GDON this role will significantly contribute to the implementation of patient centred clinical operational strategy, championing nursing quality standards, supporting our nursing, AHP and Health Care Scientists to develop workforce plans and ensuring that systems and processes in place comply with relevant legislation and governance requirements across nursing and wider Care Group service provision .

The Head of Nursing and Professions will be a highly visible, accessible clinical presence supporting operational management within the Care Group and demonstrating the Trust vision and values in all behaviours. The post holder will function at a senior level proactively leading Care Group and Trust projects (as directed by GDON) and provide solutions to resolve complex issues, in accordance with professional standards, Trust objectives, performance targets, quality standards and resource constraints.

  • Proven track record of operational management at a senior level in the acute healthcare setting managing multiple ward / services/ departments. Including staff, financial/budgetary and change management
  • Experience of a full range of performance management activity.
  • Experience of working with external partners including as an ICS
