Job summary

Our post provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience of working within a busy innovation team, whilst learning and developing project and change management skills. We are open to secondment opportunities.

Dorset ICS Innovation Hub (DIH) is one of four UK hubs funded by the Health Foundation and you will be joining at an excellent time where we are innovatively reviewing clinical services across the Dorset ICS. The hub is hosted by University Hospitals Dorset and works with Dorset's 13 partner organisations which include primary, community secondary and social care, academia, innovation, research, economy, industry and with patient and public involvement and engagement.

Main duties of the job

To perform a Band 6 Innovation Project Manager role within the Dorset Innovation Hub (DIH) focused on delivering innovation (adapt, adopt and spread) as part of the work programmes of the Dorset ICS Innovation Hub across Dorset including (but not limited to) the following:

  • MedTech Funding Mandate (MTFM) programme. National must do projects. Implementation of proven innovations into clinical practice. Innovations are already developed, and evidence based (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)) and require further deployment.
  • Nationally supported innovations that align with Dorset ICS priorities, e.g., Rapid Uptake Products (RUP).
  • DIH priority innovation projects. Focus is on proven innovations for adaptation and adoption. Recognised some local priorities may require support with innovation that is part of the discovery and develop phase requiring research and evaluation prior to deployment.
  • Doing now and need to spread projects. Proven innovations already in use locally but not widely deployed in Dorset that could be spread

About us

The post holder will support the DIH core team to undertake innovation projects to deliver the desired outcomes in accordance with quality, budget, and timescale specifications, thus performing a key role in keeping the project/programme on track to meet the objectives. This will involve:

  • facilitating the development of project plans
  • facilitating delivery of innovation projects including regulatory requirements, e.g. data protection impact assessment (DPIA)
  • monitoring progress
  • supporting the identification, recording, monitoring and management of project risks and issues
  • co-ordinate meetings, ensuring all reports and papers are prepared
  • ensuring governance processes are followe

The Band 6 Innovation Project Manager will have allocated areas of work and responsibilities and will also provide cross-working support within the DIH core team as and when required.

The Innovation Project Manager will utilise and develop high quality innovation project management skills through supporting the delivery of all aspects of the DIH Programme of work, with specific responsibility to:

  • Establish and maintain necessary delivery structures to support innovation project delivery.
  • Facilitate innovation project meetings and manage other communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain governance processes for delivery, including initiation stage, stage plans, highlights reports, and exception reports.
  • Accurately maintain innovation project plans and associated documents.
  • Support the management of innovation project risks through the application of agreed programme risk management principles.
  • Manage quality including data quality assurance process.
  • Support the development and management of innovation project communication plans.
  • Establish relationships and liaise with relevant partner organisations and stakeholders.

  • Maintain awareness of internal and external activities and policies relating to innovation, ensuring timely impact assessments to inform the planning and decision process in conjunction with the programme team.
  • Maintain the Dorset ICS Innovation Hub Our Dorset website and the Innovation UHD intranet/internet site liaising with key stakeholders.
  • To be involved in the organisation and delivery of DIH Programme meetings, events, workshops and training; co-ordinating the preparation of agendas, briefing papers and reports as required within tight deadlines; minute the meetings and maintain action logs as required.
