Job summary

Seaview Ward is a mixed gender ward, with a total of 14 beds providing a high quality of care and treatment for patients who have physical, social, psychological and emotional health needs. The purpose of the ward is to offer comprehensive assessments and treatment enabling our patients to have shorter stays in hospital and to develop clear plans of care.

We are looking for suitably qualified and caring individuals who wish to work in a fast paced and challenging environment. You will have excellent clinical skills and be a team player who is emotionally intelligent and able to remain calm when managing potentially testing situations. We promote a calm and therapeutic approach, enabling patients to overcome their current difficulties and move forwards with their recovery.

Please note: We will be unable to offer posts to anyone who can not work regular night shifts.

Shift patterns:

Night 20:30 - 07:40

Early 07:15 - 15:15

Late 13:00 - 21:00

Long Day 07:15 - 21:00

Twilight 16:00 -00:00

We would welcome applications from newly qualified *nurses/occupational therapists/ physiotherapists, and we provide a very comprehensive and fully supported Preceptorship Programme for newly qualified healthcare professionals.

You will be required to undertake a Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course, and it is a condition of your employment that you successfully complete all aspects of this course; if this is not achieved you will not be able to commence working in the post.

Main duties of the job

We offer a full induction programme to all new staff members on joining the ward and following successful completion of your 6 month probation period you will meet with your supervisor to discuss your personal development plan which will identify your learning and training needs, so we can ensure you have all the skills you need to be the best you can be in your role. As befits a specialist service there will be opportunities to train in areas such as DBT, CBT for psychosis, enhanced risk assessment and physical health interventions.

The Multi-disciplinary team on the Ward provides treatment and care for a wide range of mental health illnesses which include Schizophrenia, Bipolar Affective Disorder, Psychosis, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD and Personality Disorder. The aim of all staff is to provide a high quality of care and treatment for patients who have physical, social, psychological and emotional health needs and enable them to return home with support from the Home Treatment Team and / or their Community Mental Health Team.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.
