Job summary
TheSafeguarding Families Together team (SFT) are looking for a PWP to join the Weymouth & Portland & Dorchester team on a 12-month fixed term/secondment opportunity. This valuable expanded model brings together key skilled professionals to support the family with their needs including mental health by working in a wraparound effect with otherdifferent services. The aim is to reducethe number of children who are takeninto care where safe to do so.
The SFT Families together team aims to keep the highest risk children and families in Dorset together safely, improve health and educational outcomes for the children and reduce physical and emotional harm in families. You will be working with social care practitioners and adult specialists to work with parents in relation to domestic abuse, mental health and substance misuse. You will regularly attend group supervision in addition to your own personal supervision to support the families in an MDT approach.
You will be fully trained to use motivational interviewing in addition to your PWP core skills. This is a key technique which is designed to empower and engage parents to make positive changes needed to improve their own wellbeing.By meeting the mental health needs of the adults, the risk to the children is likely to be reduced.

Main duties of the job
The SFT Teams will include a range of specialists who will work alongside our Social Workers and Child and Family Workers. As a PWP in the team you will be:
Engaging with parents open to SFT team.
ConductingPWPAssessments.
Use Motivational interviewing skills to maintain engagement.
Utilise Step GSH step 2 techniques where appropriate.
Attendgroup based MDT supervision on top of your own ccms supervision.
Reduced Caseload & Less Paperwork
The SFT modelis based on delivering intervention and support. It means social workers and adult professionals can focus on doing what they are trained to do. By having professionals from different disciplines working under one roof, our teams are able to work closely together, minimising time spent on making referrals to other agencies for support.
Shared Responsibility & Professional Support
The responsibility for a family is shared among a team of professionals, reducing the risk placed on any one individual. Instead, social workers, Child and Family Workers, domestic abuse practitioners & officers, recovery workers, mental health practitioners and psychologists all work closely together to support families and keep children safe. All workers participate in group supervision and contribute to analysis and decision making.
