Job summary

We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a Multi Professional Approved and Responsible Clinician (MPAC) within our Adult Community Mental Health Service. This is open to experienced mental health professionals who are qualified or due to qualify in the next 6 months as Multi Professional Approved Clinicians.

In this unique role, you'll provide clinical leadership and direction to deliver specialist care to our patients. You'll work collaboratively alongside experts as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective and compassionate care.

Weymouth and Portland CMHT is a large multidisciplinary team with a clinical team leader, 2 Band 7 specialists who co work complex cases, 8 CCO posts, dedicated duty workers, support workers and a very experienced admin team. We also have a Social workers who are part of the wider team.

Main duties of the job

To assess and treat own complex caseload of patients using advanced knowledge that is evidence based.

To provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues.

To undertake research in a specialist area.

To provide education and training to other staff & students

To ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence by leading, challenging and changing practice within the clinical setting

To be responsible for clinical governance, policy, service development; provide expert advice on practice

To encompass the eight core competencies of an Approved Clinician (AC)

1. Comprehensive understanding of the AC role, legal responsibilities and key functions of the AC and RC role,

2. Applied knowledge of legal and policy framework/codes of practice/ NICE guidelines,

3. Assessment,

4. Treatment,

5. Care Planning,

6. Clinical Leadership & MDT working,

7. Equality and Diversity,

8. Communication. Act as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the MHA 1983, and hold accountability for the delivery of care and clinical decisions made.

Act as a consultant to informal patients and hold accountability for the delivery of care.

To work together with the Strategic Lead to support the continual development and embedding the Multi-professional Approved Clinician roles within the Trust; and provision of guidance and support for the education and development of trainee Multi-professional Approved Clinicians working to achieve Approved/Responsible Clinician status.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING

Essential

  • A professional mental health qualification e.g.: RMN, BSc/Diploma in OT Chartered Clinical Psychologist
  • A current registration with a professional body i.e. NMC; HCPC.
  • Trained and registered as an Approved Clinician
  • Masters level qualification in health / social care or demonstrable equivalent experience, supplemented by specialist training and/or experience to doctorate level or equivalent
  • Independent and supplementary prescribing qualification
  • Awareness of harassment, social exclusion issues and the effects of person and institutional discrimination
  • Knowledge/awareness of relevant legislation and guidance including the Mental Capacity Act 2005, the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS), The Community Care Act (1990), The Human Rights Act (1998)
