Job summary

Are you an experienced, motivated Psychologist with a passion to deliver and develop assessment, treatment, and consultation services within our mental health settings? The Dorset All Age Community Eating Disorder Service are looking for either a Clinical or Principle Psychologist to join dependent on experience.

This provides eating disorder assessment, treatment, and care for people of all ages with an eating disorder and their families across Dorset.

As a Clinical Psychologist you will be skilled in being able to provide highly specialised psychological assessments of clients and apply advanced theoretical and practical knowledge to formulate and implement plans for psychological treatment and management of people with an eating disorder, their mental health and risks.

As a Principal Psychologist you will act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community and carry out complex formulation and assessment, audit, policy, service development and research activities and/or programmes required by the DAEDS Manager. You will also supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other psychologists, other clinical professionals.

Main duties of the job

Clinical PsychologistYou will direct clinical work would include specialist assessment and tailored therapeutic interventions for individual and families, as well as developing and facilitating therapeutic group work within the inpatient and day program.You will establish positive and effective working relationship with people with eating disorders and their families/ carers, who will often present with acute mental health difficulties and therefore high levels of distress.

You will have own clinical caseload acting as care coordinator (CCO)/Lead professional as required by the needs of the patient.

Principle Clinical PsychologistYou will provide advice and consultancy to patients, professionals and especially multidisciplinary teams within the crisis and psychiatric liaison, and adolescent inpatient unit, in the areas within which the post holder has designated professional responsibility.You will supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other psychologists, other clinical professionals, and other members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.

Knowledge, Skills and Training

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society, (conferring eligibility for graduate membership) including specific models of psychopathology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Professional registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Eligibility for (or acquired) Chartership status with the BPS
  • Eligibility for Membership of Division of Clinical Psychology.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of developmental psychology, mental health disorders in childhood , and two or more distinct psychological therapies.
  • Skills in the use of complex and highly specialist methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.

Desirable

  • Post-doctoral accreditation in one or more additional specialised models of psychological therapy e.g CBT, CAT, DBT

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist for a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience within Young Peoples /Adult Mental Health with particular reference to people with severe and complex mental health problems and neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Experience of professional leadership of qualified and prequalified clinical psychologists.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, including within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan.
