Job summary

This is a brilliant opportunity for a dedicated registered nurse/ RMN with accredited training in a psychological therapy or counselling to join our Dorset Children in Care Team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen through the serious violence bid for a Senior Specialist Nurse to join the Children in Care team to support the reduction of risk of violence and improve health outcomes for CIC up to the age of 18 years.

We are looking for an experienced nurse who is able to work autonomously at Band 7, andlead on the development of this specialist service area contributing to supervision, training and data analysis, with a focus on exploitation sitting within the existing Dorset CiC health team. They will provide targeted intervention to those children identified as being at higher risk of exploitation, going missing or causing violence to others, as well as statutory health requirements for CiC.

This is a fixed term role and for those with current NHS service, the role will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please obtain permission to be released on a secondment before submitting an application.

Main duties of the job

To undertake highly specialised health assessments and support for CiC with a focus on exploitation, to meet the requirements of both Dorset Healthcare and the Local Authorities. To ensure the emotional, mental and physical health needs of a highly complex cohort are addressed in a timely manner with a therapeutic approach. Monitoring of the health input required and ensuring effective outcomes are achieved.

To provide advanced clinical advice, supervision, leadership and support ensuring the needs of the service are met by exercising and demonstrating high levels of clinical judgement, critical analysis and advanced decision-making skills.

To manage change, to monitor and improve standards through supervision, evidence-based practice, clinical audit, research and education. To promote and demonstrate best practice by integrating evidence into practice.

Initiate audit and evaluation in order to monitor the effectiveness of the service and to improve health outcomes.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse to degree level supplemented by minimum PG Dip (120 credits) plus working towards MA / MSc or demonstrable extensive experience in the relevant specialty
  • Accredited training in a psychological therapy or counselling
  • Learning and Assessing in Practice Qualification or equivalent practice assessors training
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation relevant to area of clinical practice
