Specialty Doctor /GP - Blandford Community Hospital – Tarrant Ward

Job summary

The Trust is delighted to be offering a Specialty Doctor or General Practitioner working in Elderly Care / palliative and end of life care to work with existing medical team members and supported by Consultant. This post is being offered at either full or part-time hours.

The successful candidate will be working at Blandford Hospital on Tarrant Ward which has 25 beds. The ward provides high quality care for the local community, with improved facilities for patients - especially for those with dementia or disabilities, and people requiring end-of-life care.

Blandford has already received national Gold Standard Framework accreditation for its end-of-life care, and this will now be enhanced with en suite facilities and somewhere where relatives/carers can stay to support loved ones in their final days.

Main duties of the job

To provide medical cover to Blandford Community Hospital Inpatients.

• Ward patients fit into 3 categories: step-down patients from local acute hospitals, requiring rehabilitation; step-up patients from the community, requiring investigation and management of medical problems; End of life care.
• Rehabilitation is focused on maximising individual potential, with the aim of helping patients return to their own home.
• Blandford Hospital also provides expert End of Life care for local patients unable to be cared for at home in their final days. .
• The work of the doctor is supported by an Advanced Nurse Practitioners, both on the wards and in the community.
• The intention is that the post holder will maintain good contact with local GP practices, including undertaking domiciliary visits for patients referred for hospital
