Job summary

Dorset HealthCare are seeking to recruit a Clinical Psychologist / Applied Psychologist to join the Assertive Outreach Team, based in Weymouth, West Dorset.

The Assertive Outreach Team has experience of working closely with psychology and values the Clinical Psychologist / Applied Psychologist's contribution through individual assessment/formulation and wider consultation to the team. You would be directly line managed by a clinical psychologist.

For newly qualified staff we can offer support from Band 7 through the preceptorship process to Band 8A. We offer excellent development opportunities, including further psychotherapy training, mentoring, support and clinical supervision. Those who are already matched in skill would move automatically to Band 8A and we will provide additional support to enable career progression and professional development.

The Clinical Psychologist / Applied Psychologist post is a part-time, permanent position working 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday. These hours can be met either over a two-day other period - we can be flexible to meet your needs. This role can also be part of a job share with an existing post already held or combined with potential psychology roles.

Main duties of the job

This post is based with Assertive Outreach Team West (AOT) Weymouth. Assertive Outreach services are provided for people with a primary diagnosis of serious mental disorder often co-existing with substance misuse. Patients due to past trauma maybe difficult to engage, have frequently failed with routine treatment, exhibit poor social functioning, are often excluded from many aspects of daily life and sometimes present risk of harm to self and others.

The post holder will be required to manage their time effectively to enable them to provide psychological services across the team. This would include provision of specialist psychological assessments and interventions for clients. An important part of the role would include psychological consultation and case formulation to the wider team including training, clinical supervision and guidance around case management.

You will need to have a valid driving licence and use of a car as will sometimes be required to assess and monitor patients in their own homes and within other community settings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING

Essential

  • Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology or equivalent.
  • Professional Registration with HCPC.
  • Clinical supervision training.
  • Relevant specialist training or qualifications (e.g. CBT; CAT; DBT; ACT; MI or schema therapy).
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, as practiced within the field of clinical psychology

  • Ability to use a range of highly complex assessment materials (including psychometric tests).
