Job summary

Our Early Intervention Service (EIS) and At Risk Mental State Services (ARMS) are expanding and we are looking for Support Time Recovery Workers to work across both services. The role is based at Hillcrest Ensbury Park.

To provide support and give time to an allocated group of service users aged 14-65 under the EIS and ARMS service to help in promoting their recovery and social inclusion, maintaining them in their community environment.

Working as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team which includes Mental Health Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Psychology Assistants, Support Time Recovery Workers, Employment Specialists and Admin Assistants.

The EIS and ARMS service support people who are at risk of developing psychosis or who have had first episode of psychosis.

This is a full time Monday to Friday 9:00-17:00 role, part time applications would be considered with opportunities for flexible working. Being a driver is essential for this role.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Main duties of the job

To enable the planning, delivery and review of individual care plans and strategies for service users with mental health needs.

To provide support with daily living, "living ordinary lives" working within the Recovery Model; e.g. social inclusion.

To positively promote independent living of service users within their chosen communities through regular and practical support of them and their carers.

To help service users gain access to resources, including benefits and welfare rights, to appropriate housing and meaningful occupation.

To promote service users physical wellbeing through regular health checks, promoting healthy life choices and promoting social inclusion.

To help identify early signs of relapse in conjunction with the individual and to liaise, as needed, with the appropriate professionals.

Essential

  • Ability and desire to obtain both underpinning knowledge / NVQ qualification combined with a commitment to undertake Core Professional Development

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3

Skills / Experience / Knowledge Base

Essential

  • Ability to listen / communicate effectively at all levels
  • An ability to act calmly in emergencies and respond in a professional manner to stressful and challenging behaviour
  • Must have sufficient understanding of mental illness to be able to describe the difference between a severe mental illness and mental distress like anxiety and mild depression
  • A significant experience of caring for someone using mental health services in a severe mental illness service setting, or at least two years working as a volunteer on a regular basis each week with people with a severe mental illness

  • Basic First Aid skills
