Job summary

This is a new exciting role for an experienced support worker to join the CMHT based at Fairmile House in Christchurch.

The post holder will work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team. The team is made up of Psychiatrists, Nurses, Psychologists, Employment Specialists, Physical Health Workers, Social Workers and Administrators.

The role requires working independently and autonomously with service users with a serious mental illness with the support of qualified mental health nurses and the multi-disciplinary Team.

The post holder will be expected to work across the service in the community enabling and empowering individuals to access opportunities which may promote their recovery. Previous experience of working within Mental Health would be advantageous as would a flexible, innovative and person-centred approach to practice.

Car owner/driver is essential subject to the provisions of the Equality Act (2010)

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of registered / qualified staff the STRW will assist in the provision of clinical care of adults with severe mental illness.

They will be expected to professionally promote patients' recovery in the community whilst concurrently working within the perimeters of legislation, policy and procedures.

To provide support to an allocated group of patients, promoting their recovery and social inclusion and maintaining them in their community environment (STR role).

To focus on the direct needs of patients, working across boundaries of care, organisation and role, co-ordinated through the Integrated Care Programme Approach (ICPA).

Supporting patient's by participating in the assessment, planning and implementation of their care plan.

Knowledge, Skills and Training

Essential

  • Working knowledge focusing on recovery of adults with mental illness to diploma level or equivalent experience.
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience
  • Basic level of knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983 and the Mental Capacity Act

Desirable

  • Care Certificate
  • Ability to carry out extensive physical observations without supervision. To include phlebotomy, ECG etc.

  • Experience of working with adults with acute and enduring mental illness.
  • Experience of working with individuals in a recovery oriented environment.
  • Experience of supporting the development of more junior staff.
