Job summary

The Community Therapy Team for Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch are looking for an experienced, motivated and highly specialist Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with a clinical interest in Falls, Trauma, and Orthopaedics.

We are excited and pleased to announce this opportunity for a new role of Band 7 Clinical Specialist Therapist in Falls, Trauma, and Orthopaedics (part time, 30 hours/week) working within the Community Therapy Team of Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.

We offer employment in a dynamic team, of Rehabilitation Assistants, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, including a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Neurology, and Band 7 Team Leader. We are a supportive and close team and also have areas of defined specialisms; Neuro-Medical Therapists, and Falls, Trauma, and Orthopaedic (FTO) Therapists which enables specialist knowledge, therapy and skills throughout the community.

Main duties of the job

This role will have a strong clinical focus and we are looking for a skilled and confident therapist who can develop skills within a team, develop the community FTO service, and deliver excellent care and therapy to people with falls, trauma, and orthopaedic health conditions.

The post holder will have the opportunity to develop quality improvement and leadership skills, and promote the delivery of evidenced based therapy within the community using highly specialised assessment skills, and implement and evaluate goal orientated clinical treatment programmes.

This is an ideal opportunity if you have clinical expertise in falls, trauma, and orthopaedics, and motivation to develop quality services across the community.

You will require a car for use at work, to enable you to work autonomously in the community to visit patients, whilst adhering to local and Trust guidance on lone working.

CLINICAL

To provide highly specialist clinical assessment, treatment and advice to service users with complex orthopaedic and falls presentations.

To work autonomously using highly specialised assessment skills of patients where needs are highly complex, and implement and evaluate goal orientated clinical treatment programmes in line with established evidence based practice.

Demonstrate a high level of knowledge in relation to clinical presentations and appropriate therapeutic interventions.

To empower individuals, their carers and their families to manage their own long term condition(s).

To carry out risk assessments and management of the physical environment to safeguard patients, staff and carers to enable complex health needs to be managed, e.g. moving and handling, lone working.

To provide clinical guidance and advice to other members of the Multi-disciplinary Team through participation in screening of referrals, team meetings, joint treatments, teaching and case conferences.

To support the Team Leader to continually enhance service quality and contribute towards service development.

Provide an autonomous and flexible approach, balancing leadership and clinical commitments to support service users, Band 6 senior therapists, Rehabilitation Assistants, Therapy Assistant Practitioners and students. Providing supervision, mentorship, training and clinical support.

Assessment, intervention and case management to be provided via blend of virtual working and face-to-face input to people in their own homes or care home settings.

To provide specialist clinical advice, leadership and support ensuring the needs of the service are met by exercising and demonstrating high levels of clinical judgement, critical analysis and advanced decision making skills.

To manage change, to monitor and improve standards through supervision, evidence based practice, clinical audit, research and education. To promote and demonstrate best practice by integrating evidence into practice.

To maintain own documentation in line with professional, legal and local requirements and to ensure other members of the team also adhere to these requirements.

To communicate effectively with other disciplines involved with patient care to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach and integrated service.

To ensure high standards of clinical care for patients on own caseload and support other staff within the team to do likewise.

To supply and fit safely, accurately and appropriately a full range of equipment/aids to patients on caseload.
