Job summary

We are looking to recruit Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapists (High Intensity CBT Therapists) across Dorset within our Steps 2 Wellbeing service.

The successful candidates will undertake a 12 month training course at the University of Exeter. During this time, you will be trained to provide High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy within a stepped care model for adults with common mental health problems. You will be required to attend training at the University two days a week and to work with a caseload of patients within service three days a week. All staff will work as part of a team, receive regular clinical supervision. Trainees can work flexibly; we offer a combination of face to face and remote work. You will be required to attend 100% of training days with the University.

The course is due to start on 9th January with 2 university induction days taking place on 5th and 6th December.

Are you eligible to apply?

There are two routes to eligibility.

ROUTE 1: You will be qualified in a mental health profession as defined by the BABCP (e.g. social worker, occupational therapist, mental health nurse, etc See website for full list of accepted core professions; Core Professions (babcp.com)) AND have at least 2 years post qualification experience.

Main duties of the job

ROUTE 2: You do not have a core profession but you have 4 years relevant mental health experience and have completed a KSA portfolio which you are able to submit at point of interview (please refer to BABCP KSA guidance to find out if a full or partial KSA portfolio is required Knowledge Skills and Attitudes (babcp.com)). Please note that Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners cannot be recruited to HI training posts until they have at least two years of post-qualification experience.Please also be aware that if you have recently completed an NHS funded psychological professions course, you will not be eligible to access this training until 2 years post qualification.

If applying via route 2 you will need to have your KSA completed and ready to submit at point of interview. Alloffers are conditional on completion of a KSA and this would need to be submitted following interview if offered a conditional place.   • An undergraduate degree or equivalent in a discipline connected to mental health (e.g. Psychology, neuroscience, or a BABCP recognised core profession) OR those without an undergraduate qualification but with evidence of the ability to study at third year of undergraduate level (level 6) will also be considered)
  • A core mental health profession as defined by the British Association for Behavioural and cognitive Psychotherapies( BABCP) e.g. social work, OT, MH nurse, clinical or counselling psychologist, psychiatrist and have at least 2 years post qualification experience OR candidates who do not have a core profession need to be able to provide a complete KSA portfolio (please refer to BABCP KSA guidance for whether a full / partial KSA is required)
  • Some knowledge and experience of CBT
