Job summary

Dorset HealthCare are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our supportive team!

As a Speech and Language Therapist you will be joining The Dorset Community Adult Speech and Language Therapy service that is supportive and dynamic. You will be responsible for providing a community clinical service across Shelley Road and Alderney Hospital sites. We welcome ideas of change that could contribute to creating a better service for people living with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties.

You will be supported by Band 6 & 7 therapists, opportunity to work with SLT assistant's local adult acute SLT teams and the paediatric SLT community team is available to enable development. We offer CPD opportunities, regular supervision, peer supervision with another Band 5.

The Speech and Language Therapist role is a full-time position Monday to Friday. We could be flexible with how the hours are met over the working days, as long as the services needs are met. We embrace flexible working and we support a hybrid model of working from home as well as the office.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Interviews will be held on 16th March 2023 and likely via MS Teams.

Main duties of the job

The service sees patients in their own home, video call appointments, in clinics and in Community Hospital settings. As a member of the Team you will be expected to work collaboratively with the other team members to manage the locality caseload as needed.

  • To provide a high quality person centred approach to care delivery which always considers people's safety, privacy and dignity.
  • To undertake assessment of patients / service users care needs, and develop programmes of care as part of the wider multi-disciplinary care team.
  • To provide advice to patients/ service users and carers regarding their care.
  • To plan, implement and review health improvement programmes in a range of settings.
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and clinical support to students and junior staff in the team.
