Job description

Job responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible, as part of the clinical team, for providing assessment, treatment and care for patients referred to the Team and will work under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrists.

The Dorset Perinatal Community Mental Health Team provides comprehensive community mental health services to people of childbearing age with a team case load of approximately 250 patients. The focus is on prevention and treatment of maternal mental health from preconception into the antenatal and postnatal period and parent infant interventions to facilitate a good parent infant bond.

The team base for the team is at Florence House and Forston clinic. In line with the Trusts desire to improve patient access to services, it is expected that patients will be seen in community settings when appropriate e.g. primary care clinics, family hubs or home visits.

Close working relationships with primary care, maternity services and social care are essential for the provision of high quality and safe perinatal psychiatric services. The post holder and team will work closely with these colleagues so that patients have easy access to specialist perinatal mental healthcare when needed and good communication is maintained between services.

The post holder will be expected to work with the perinatal community team to cover emergency work and to keep waiting lists within the Trust agreed limits. This has been within four weeks for routine referrals.

The team has a duty system which involves non-medical staff. It is a requirement that the post holder will be a Section 12 Approved. The section 12 work will be shared between the consultants, associate specialist and the post holder.

The ability to work closely and co-operatively with members of a multi-disciplinary team is an essential and integral part of the post. Attendance at a weekly multidisciplinary team meeting is required. The presentation of assessments, management plans and case reviews is an important part of the duties of this post.

The post holder will be expected to produce high quality, timely, written documentation supporting their work, both in the ongoing clinical record (RiO) and letters of correspondence in keeping with Trust Policy.

The post holder will have dedicated shared office space at Florence House and secretarial support from the lead administrator, who will oversee any clinic and diary arrangements and ensure the smooth running of clinical services.

The post holder will participate in a senior non-resident on-call rota with Specialty Registrars and Associate Specialists. On call payments are 2% plus 1 PA.

The speciality doctor will have clinical supervision from one of the Consultant Psychiatrists.
