Job summary

Are you an enthusiastic, forward thinking nurse who can adapt to changing priorities and deliver high quality nursing care? The Learning Disability Service in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is staffed by a passionate and dedicated integrated team and is looking for a like-minded nurse to join us. This is an excellent opportunity to practice within the challenging yet rewarding field of community learning disability nursing.

The band 6 role advertised will be mainly based in Christchurch a very pretty location in Dorset.

Although advertised at band 6 we would also accept applications from band 5 nurses and we offer a developmental programme to band 6.

Main duties of the job

Working part time (30hrs per week) the successful candidate will be experienced in working in partnership with people with learning disabilities, their families and carers and supporting them to live successfully in the community. You will be committed to improving outcomes for our service users and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Knowledge, skills and training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse RNLD or RMN
  • ENB 998/Learning and assessing in clinical practice or equivalent teaching/mentoring qualification
  • Further evidence of professional development and training for CPD
  • passion for working with people with learning disabilities

Job specific experience

Essential

  • 3 years experience at working at level band 5
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, MAPPA and CPA.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection Adult Safeguarding
  • Ability to lead and facilitate meetings
  • Ability to work with clients who have physical/sensory needs or who present challenging behaviour and can be verbally/physically aggressive and unpredictable in their behaviour.
  • Ability to manage time and conflicting demands and prioritise workload accordingly.
  • Ability to assess, develop, plan and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Ability to undertake risk assessments.
