The Oncoplastic Clinical Fellow post is now in its 11th successful year and has been created as a result of increased activity demands, Royal College of Surgeons training requirements regarding the Breast Surgery Curriculum, and to help achieve New Deal compliance for junior medical staff by supporting the general surgical patient workload.

The Oncoplastic Clinical Fellow post is now in its 11th successful year and has been created as a result of increased activity demands, Royal College of Surgeons training requirements regarding the Breast Surgery Curriculum, and to help achieve New Deal compliance for junior medical staff by supporting the general surgical patient workload.
The post-holder will be expected to ensure adequate support is given to the Breast Team. This post is intended for senior breast surgery trainees who wish to dedicate time to training in specialist oncoplastic procedures and breast reconstruction. For this reason, this post is likely to be most suitable for those who have experience at looking after breast patients in the past
This is a fixed term post with the postholder working a minimum of 40 hours per week. The postholder will work under the supervision of Mrs Isabella Karat, Mr Hisham Osman, and Mr Goran Ahmed. The postholder will be expected to provide prospective and cross cover for other members of the Breast Team. Composition of the Team:
o 3 Consultant Surgeons
o 2 Registrars
o 1 Senior Oncoplastic Clinical Fellows
o 1 FY2 or Core trainee
o 1 FY1

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible to the Consultants. Duties will include the following:
Inpatients
To provide day to day care of surgical inpatients.
Clinics
To support the relevant sub-specialist outpatient clinics as required.
To obtain exposure and training in the assessment of breast patients for resectional and oncoplastic/reconstructive surgery.
Theatres
To support the service workload of the sub-specialty whilst ensuring that she/he still gains the appropriate surgical experience and exposure to Oncoplastic techniques
Academic
The incumbent is expected to play a contributory role in current departmental research and audit. Full support and advice will be offered.
Other
Attendance at weekly breast multidisciplinary meetings and breast unit business meetings and AGM.
The postholder will be expected to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances and to be available for exceptional irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties where this is essential for continuity of patient care.
The duties will be located in the Inpatient Wards, Outpatients Department and Theatres at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust Hospital.

- ATLS
- Full GMC registration

Experience

- 4 years post qualification experience of which 2 years of which must be in a general surgery post at ST1/2 level or equivalent
- Demonstrates experience of teaching and training ST1/2 or equivalent and F1s
- Competent in basic procedures e.g. CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc
- Prior NHS experience other than clinical attachment
Desirable
- Experience working at middle grade in a surgical speciality
- Has participated in clinical audit
- Previous research experience
- Previous breast surgery experience
