Core Clinical Fellow - Plastic Surgery

Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for daily management and review of inpatient care for patients admitted under the plastic surgery team at Wexham Park Hospital.
The Core Clinical Fellow will be on an average of 1:6 on-call covering day and night on calls and will be exposed to many opportunities in the operating theatre in elective, emergency and day case procedures.
This is a 12 month fixed term post.
Main duties of the job
- Participate in morning trauma meeting and (when on-call) evening handover.
- On ward cover, arrive at 07:45 for handover and a morning ward round of all patients, ensuring the action plan from the handover is carried out and that there is proper daily documentation in the notes and adherence to VTE and MRSA prophylaxis protocols. Answer all ward calls and attend as required. Maintain an updated inpatient list.
- On theatre days, carry out preoperative patient review with your team and assist with surgery, documentation and ensure the postoperative plan is followed. Review your postoperative patients that are staying overnight.
- When on-call, take A&E and external referrals and those from other departments, review them and formulate a management plan with senior input. Maintain an updated patient database.
- Comply at all times with the Trust's dress code.
- Observe Trust policy on prevention of infection including hand washing and remaining bare below the elbows in all patient areas.
- Take responsibility for your continuing professional development and attend Trust essential training, any clinical updates and Trust Academic Half Days as appropriate.
- Undergo an annual appraisal as part of maintaining medical registration as required for Revalidation.
- Participate in the departmental teaching rota, journal club and grand rounds.
