We see over 125,000 patients per annum, 25% of whom are managed in our integrated Paediatric ED. As a regional PCI, vascular and stroke centre as well as busy trauma unit you will be guaranteed a rich and varied caseload of acute presentations. A Trust-wide fully integrated EPR, Epic launched in June 2022.

Applicants for the position should be on the Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine or within 6 months (from the interview date) of award of their CCT / CESR in Emergency Medicine. A subspecialty qualification would be welcome, but not mandatory. Instructor status in ALS/ATLS/APLS is preferable and in date provider status is essential.

Main duties of the job

The job plan will normally be based on a 10 PA contract which will divide into 8 DCC and 2 SPA. The appointee will be based at the Frimley Park site with opportunities for cross-site working at our other ED in Wexham Park Hospital. The appointee will be expected to join the annualised rota which allows greater flexibility to pursue other interests and help maintain a good work life balance. The DCC will be annualised at a quarterly rota meeting to provide ED shop floor cover from 0800-midnight 7 days a week. The weekend frequency is 1 in 6 weekends working either a day (08-17.30) or late (17.30-00.00 with on-call from home). There are aspirations with additional ED Consultant numbers towards expanding the evening and weekend shift pattern in accordance with the RCEM workforce document. EM Consultant duties include leadership, supervision, education, mentoring, leading resuscitation teams, and leading ED handover board-rounds.
