Job summary

The trauma and orthopaedic department at Frimley Health is home to one of the largest orthopaedic units in south east England. The large orthopaedic unit at Frimley Park Hospital is supported by over 25 orthopaedic consultants and a physio team of 14 staff.

Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Main duties of the job

  • Be responsible for a varied caseload of trauma, including spinal cord injured patient and complex multi-trauma
  • Be responsible for the supervision & appraisal of rotational staff and students
  • Have support and supervision from an experienced Team Leader, Clinical Lead and Principal Physiotherapist
  • Attend MDT trauma meetings weekly
  • Contribute to the in-service training programme
  • Contribute to service audit
  • Participate in specific orthopaedic senior in-service training with the other orthopaedic band 6s, band 7s and 8a. This programme is designed to challenge and improve your knowledge and clinical reasoning whilst improving your presenting skills

Job description

Job responsibilities

To be responsible as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant clinical caseload on the orthopaedic unit

To be responsible for the smooth running of a designated area of the unit, delegating workload to other members of the orthopaedic team

To participate in the Trust Appraisal Scheme both as an appraiser and an appraisee

To be responsible to and deputise for the Band 7/8a Physiotherapists on the orthopaedic unit as required

To communicate effectively with other disciplines both internally and externally to ensure multidisciplinary approach to care both verbally and by providing discharge reports

To arrange follow up outpatient physiotherapy or onward referral to relevant discharge schemes as required to ensure a seamless service

To attend any ward rounds, meetings, case conferences as appropriate in order to ensure appropriate and timely management of patients through to discharge

To contribute to the education of physiotherapy staff (qualified and support) formally, through inservice training and informally on the job training

To supervise physiotherapists and support staff working in the designated clinical area

To be involved in the training and supervision of students on placement within the clinical area
