The Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship offers you fully funded training and qualifications, while allowing you to work and earn in a rewarding role.

On qualification you are eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Society

This role provides intensive training and demands a significant amount of motivation and commitment; including the ability to consistently dedicate 10-15 hours to home study per week.

Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and manage own time efficiently are essential.

The job will involve working some evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

All applicants MUST meet and be able to prove the apprenticeship criteria listed in the person specification, including holding 4 GCSEs (or proven equivalent) including English Language, Maths and Science subjects at grade 4-9 / A*-C. Please check these carefully and ensure this is clear on your application form (including GCSE grades) as candidates who do not meet the full criteria will not be shortlisted.

Unfortunately applicants holding higher than a Level 2 Pharmacy qualification will not be eligible for apprenticeship funding.

Main duties of the job

Supervised duties will include:

  • Labelling, dispensing and accuracy checking a variety of prescriptions using our electronic prescribing system
  • Learning how different medicines work and what they are used to treat
  • Ordering, receiving and maintaining pharmaceutical stock
  • Providing excellent customer care and maintaining confidentiality while dealing with patients, staff and the public
  • Counselling patients on how to use their medicines safely
  • Working directly with patients on wards and in clinics to ensure safe medicines use both while in hospital and on discharge
