These are full time 10 PA posts which include 1.5 PAs of SPA but any candidate who wishes to work less than full time will be considered and supported, taking into account service needs. The job plan will then be reviewed annually and covers all aspects of a consultants professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it will include personal objectives, including details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.

Consultants also provide tutorials for those junior staff preparing for examinations. Participation in Clinical Audit is a requirement and an on going activity in this department. Research activity is encouraged and supported by the Trust Research and Development Department. Attendance at the monthly educational day is part of the SPA and staff are expected to attend with the exception of those providing emergency care cover and those on leave.

There is a focus on the use of simulation based training with SIM suites and SIM fellows.
