Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

The department of Plastic Surgery is located at Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, where the inpatient adult and paediatric beds, dedicated operating theatre facilities and main outpatient sessions are based. Most emergency and some elective work is undertaken at Wexham Park Hospital. Outpatient clinics and operating sessions are also held at Heatherwood Hospital and at King Edward VII Hospital, Windsor, St Mark's Hospital, Maidenhead, Bracknell, and Chalfont's St Peters.

The department manages trauma from a large catchment, including patients from regional hospitals such as Hillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge and the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. Up to 50% of the inpatient activity is dedicated to the provision of acute care for trauma and emergency care.

Main duties of the job

This post is a locum post initially for 6 months. At present funding is not in place for this to become a substantive post. The post will have a focus on hand and wrist trauma but there will be a variable caseload of elective hand, general plastic surgery and skin cancer surgery according to the needs of the department. The successful candidate would become part of the Hand Unit working with four other plastic consultants, the Hand Fellow and Trauma Coordinator. Trauma responsibilities will include the Closed Hand Injury Clinic (CHIC), Plastic Urgent Care (PUC) clinic which sees open injuries, and a trauma list.

Our hand trauma figures continue to rise and there is an interest in the department to expand the hand trauma cover we provide to ensure we adhere to BSSH standards.

The ability to work flexibly, cohesively and in collaboration with the existing consultants is a necessary requirement to the post.
