Frimley Park Hospital Stroke Unit is looking for enthusiastic and innovative professionals to complement the current team of 5 Stroke physicians and to help us continue to deliver a high performing service. Stroke is a strategic priority for the Trust as we believe our patients deserve the very best. Candidates are expected to have received subspecialty training in stroke medicine with a parent speciality in Geriatrics, GIM, Neurology or Acute Medicine

Frimley Park Hospital is commissioned to provide Hyper Acute Stroke Care (HASU) to the communities Frimley Health serves in Surrey, Berkshire, Hampshire, and Buckinghamshire. We deliver Hyper Acute and Acute Stroke services at Frimley Park Hospital as well as TIA, six week follow up and six-month review clinics. The HASU (10 beds) is located at Frimley Park Hospital with on-going ASU care for patients at Frimley Park Hospital (18 beds) and Royal Surrey County Hospital (RSCH), Guildford (13 beds). Stroke rehabilitation is provided within the trust and at Wexham Park Hospital, Farnham Hospital and RSCH. In addition, we have a highly regarded Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be based at Frimley Park Hospital. The post holder will be expected to deliver stroke care across all areas of the pathway including HASU and ASU ward rounds, TIA clinic and Stroke follow up clinics. They will work alongside our multidisciplinary team (MDT) of stroke physicians, stroke nurse consultant, stroke nurse specialists, clinical neuropsychologist, and stroke therapists. We also have a KSS deanery Stroke ST3 post and are appointing 2 middle grades to be entirely based within the stroke department. FY1, FY2, IMT, and GP trainees rotate through the department. The successful applicant will take part in a 1:8 on call rota providing 24/7 thrombolysis and weekend HASU ward rounds. Our thrombectomy providers are St George's University Hospital, London and Kings College Hospital, London. We have a growing research portfolio and encourage applicants with an interest in research and education. We have close links with our colleagues in neurology, neuroradiology and vascular surgery with weekly MDT meetings.
