Job summary

We are looking for a enthusiastic and talented Pathology IT Manager to join Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS). Reporting to the CIO, the role will manage a team of IT specialists and managed service providers responsible for supporting critical pathology services serving five partner trusts.

The Pathology IT department is a dedicated team focussed on delivering exceptional services whilst embarking on a major digital transformation of its core technologies. The aim being to deliver simple, secure, interconnected systems and tools that save time, improve quality, and deliver excellent patient care.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate experience in running IT services across service desk, application support, infrastructure, managed service providers and assurance functions whilst embracing change and driving measurable IT improvements.

Excellent verbal and communication skills are essential, as dealing with a wide range of clinical staff, associated professionals and external bodies is a significant aspect of the role.

This is a challenging yet rewarding role with a fantastic opportunity to lead and develop a highly effective service delivery function for BSPS that is collaborative, customer focused and responsive to user needs.

Main duties of the job

The main purpose of the role is to act as the focal point and provide leadership for the BSPS Pathology IT Team. To support and develop a highly effective and customer focussed department, delivering Pathology IT support, utilising ITSM framework, across multiple NHS Partner Trusts.

To provide subject matter knowledge and expertise in a responsive and professional manner, working closely with colleagues internally and externally to improve the efficiency and accuracy of its operation to ensure a high quality of service across BSPS.

Experience with managing supplier relationships and contracts is key towards improving the overall availability and performance of pathology services.

The role will also engage with a wide range of stakeholders and provide input and support to the overall BSPS Strategy and Roadmap, making sure delivery of change is transitioned inline with service expectations.

  • Manage the overall pathology IT department including individual team members to deliver a consistent high quality of service.
  • Lead and transform IT Service Management processes and reporting, through continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all pathology IT assets, applications and licensing to maintain compliance.
  • Responsible for the development of Pathology IT Policy and documentation, including managing risk through information and quality governance frameworks.
  • To act as the escalation point for the service desk and associated major incidents.
  • Responsible for customer relations management and communications both internally and externally.
  • Lead on IT communications across service areas to make sure coordinated, accurate and timely. Responsible for escalating, to senior managers, any issue that could significantly impact the business.
