Job summary

This is a very exciting and unique opportunity for a qualified and experienced ACP to apply for a secondment post within our busy trauma and orthopaedic frailty team.

As part of the role, you will work alongside the Orthopaedic frailty team consisting of 2 consultants, a specialist registrar, and a few juniors, as well as liaising with other members of the wider MDT: orthopaedics, anaesthetics, TNP, OT, PT etc to ensure quality care for our patients.

The post holder should be an experienced practitioner who acts within his / her professional boundaries to co-ordinate and oversee admission of elderly frail trauma patients. The post holder will provide for the care and on-going management of trauma patients with conditions relating to frailty and old age including providing care for the presenting patient, from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care. They will work autonomously as a senior professional within Trust and NMC policies, protocols, and guidelines, demonstrating safe, clinical decision-making, high levels of critical thinking and holistic practice, adhering to trust values, policies, and procedures.

This position is open to individual who is trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner however should have completed physical assessment module and is a prescriber.

Main duties of the job

The Elderly Trauma Advanced Practitioner will have a positive impact upon the assessment of older adults with frailty and their carers who are admitted under trauma and Orthopaedics,. The post holder will be an experienced and qualified practitioner, able to work autonomously as a senior professional within our team.

The Trauma Nurse Advanced Practitioner is a qualified advanced practitioner able to assess and treat many clinical cases and will provide and clinical expertise for developing and enhancing the service.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse/ Registered Mental Health Nurse/ Practitioner or Registered Allied Health Professional
  • Post registration qualification or equivalent experience gained by undertaking ungoing personal development and training focussed on older adults/frailty/advanced practice
  • Masters in advanced Practice or Masters level award that covers all 4 pillars of the Asvanced Clinical Practice (ACP) capabilities (essential to include advanced clinical skills and diagnostic reasoning qualifications.)
  • Teaching and assessing qualification/ Mentorship/Assessor qualification
  • Registered Non medical prescriber with evidence of update knowledge appropriate to the patient groups prescribing for
  • Management/Leadership Qualification or development programme

Experience

Essential

  • Senior nurse, ideally with orthopaedic and spinal experience , who has successfully completed formal education of Master's level on a recognised ACP programme and, or willing to undertake this.
  • Ability to work within the multi disciplinary team and equally the ability to work independently.
