Job summary

The POCT team would like to announce the fantastic opportunity to be part of a new team to manage and direct the CoVid Testing services across the current networked BSPS hospital sites. The current service was set up during the pandemic and is now going to have a dedicated team created to work diligently over the coming winter season.

Berkshire Surrey Pathology Services, BSPS, provide a comprehensive laboratory service to Frimley Health, the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, Ashford and St Peters and Reading hospitals.

POCT are now looking to add to the current team to run Rapid testing until March 2024. .

The successful candidate will be required to work at all BSPS locations when required.

The ability to travel independently between sites and work flexibly is essential.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will be expected to supervise and work in the CoVid Flu RSV Rapid Testing team, will need to have understanding of the need for quality control measures, can participate in audit work, risk assessments and incident logging of errors. Duties include supervision of all quality requirements in line with UKAS requirements.

Will maintain all necessary record keeping and ensure training and competencies are completed and kept up to date.

Will work with Managers to ensure the quality and robustness of the current service. Will assist with reporting into the Senior Management of the POCT SRRS team.

Will cover out of hours services reporting into the Senior BMS in the team with issues put side the scope of the Band 5 role.

Will carry out any necessary procedure to comply with the Trusts POCT Policy.

We are looking for enthusiastic and confident individuals to work as part of the Samba Rapid Respiratory Testing / Point of Care Testing Team, providing a comprehensive supporting role to all our SRRS staff and all users of Point of Care equipment. The equipment provide results that cover blood gas analysis, full blood count , blood glucose and ketones, urinalysis and more point of care devices.

The Point of Care Team co-ordinates the appraisal, introduction and use of analytical devices in wards, clinics and departments within the hospital trusts and in the community, allowing quality pathology results to be produced nearer the patient.

In the last year the POCT services have expanded the scope to include rapid CoVid and respiratory virus testing, working with Emergency departments to achieve safe admissions pathways.

Essential

  • Has experience of working in a Laboratory or POCT service
  • Shows knowledge of quality processes or has experience of quality management
  • Can demonstrate competency or relevant skill set in current science based role
  • Can provide examples of flexible working and ability to prioritise and focus

Desirable

  • HCPC registration or working towards
  • Has valid driving licence and car for cross site working
  • Has more than 1 years experience working as HCPC registered practitioner or has experience of laboratory based work
