Job summary
The Berkshire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) is seeking to employ a Specialist Screening Nurse Practitioner to work across its services.
The role involves working as part of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) which was launched in Berkshire in October 2009.As part of this exciting opportunity you will be part of a growing national programme, playing an essential role in looking after patients undergoing Bowel Cancer Screening.If successful, you would be involved in providing nurse-led pre-assessment clinics to assess patient's suitability for investigation and providing patient support for their BCSP journey via attendance at colonoscopy and appropriate follow up.
Successful completion of the level 6 Specialist Screening Practitioners course at the JMU Liverpool or Plymouth is mandatory for this role and is normally commenced 6 -12 months into the post. Training for the Open Exeter Bowel Cancer Software System (BCSS) is also mandatory once in post which requires 3 days off site.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate flexibility and professionalism, whilst practicing autonomously and working across the county of Berkshire, mainly Reading and Slough. For this vacancy we are looking for someone to be based at Wexham Park Hospital but also be able to travel to Heatherwood Hospital . This post may also be required to do some cross-site cover at Reading and Newbury.
Excellent communication and IT skills are essential to facilitate a multifaceted role within a multi-disciplinary service. We are a dynamic and growing team, and there is much support for growth and development both within the team and across the Trust for the right candidate. You will be required to:
- Attend colonoscopy sessions on the Endoscopy unit
- Support Endoscopy staff in the care of patients
- Collect data and patient information and input it onto an Electronic systems.
- Conduct independent nurse-led clinics
- Utilise decision making skills to ensure a safe patient journey of each patient.
