Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner for Surgery on the Frimley Park Hospital site. The post holder will work as part of the surgical team caring for surgical patients attending the ambulatory care department as well as patients on the general surgical inpatient wards. The role will be key in supporting our same day emergency care pathways for surgery.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have sound clinical skills and knowledge with recent experience at Band 6 in a surgical area. The individual must have excellent interpersonal skills and be confident to communicate with staff at all levels within the multidisciplinary team. The role requires energy, initiative, and autonomous working. You will be a role model to staff; showcasing best practice to deliver safe quality care to patients and creating a positive learning environment.

The expectation will be for the successful candidate to undertake a Masters programme after a period of development and consolidation in the role. This programme will equip the post holder with patient assessment and non-medical prescribing knowledge and skills.

Job responsibilities

    • To work according to the NMC Code of Conduct, Trust policies and professional guidelines
    • To assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat surgical patients within the Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit.
    • To act as a first contact for patients attending the unit to implement faster and more effective initiation of appropriate assessments and treatment.
    • To provide specialist advice and support to other members of the team to ensure appropriate assessment, planning and implementation of clinical care.
    • To carry out specialist clinical procedures within clinical competence
    • To lead and monitor the performance and standards of care within the nursing team
    • In conjunction with the Surgical Matron, Head of Nursing and the surgical teams, facilitate the development of the service.
    • To provide specialist education and training to other staff and learners within the unit and externally to other areas of the hospital as required.

  • Appropriately interpret information and use knowledge and judgement to provide highly specialist advice when reviewing, analysing and evaluating all aspects of the patients care and treatment plan according to their holistic needs.
