Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Cardiology Investigations Unit for a Physiologist Cross Site Lead. The role will be providing a specialist clinical knowledge and skills in a broad range of cardiac diagnostic testing, invasive and non-invasive for both in-patients and outpatients across all sites. The Lead Physiologist will perform and report on a range of highly specialist cardiac ultrasound scans, provide expert advice in this specialist area to a range of healthcare professionals and managers.

You will be required to manage, on a day-to-day basis a team of advanced and specialist cardiac physiologists who deliver echocardiograph services at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Clinical

  • Act as lead clinician for the delivery of a comprehensive echo service for patients with diverse clinical needs within a highly specialist area. Demonstrate a high standard of technical proficiency in a wide range of techniques - using initiative to deviate from policy when required.
  • Apply advanced practical and theoretical knowledge to perform, analyse and interpret cardiac ultrasound scans to a high level of competence and to write high quality clinical reports.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in patient's clinical status, initiate remedial action where necessary, and act accordingly when exposed to distressing or emotional circumstances when dealing directly with patients, relatives, and carers.
  • Provide support and assistance to colleagues dealing with difficult and conflicting situations including those that are of a clinical nature.
  • Review echo studies and reports performed by others and provide highly specialised advice on interpretation and reporting.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the field of echocardiography.
  • Review, prioritise and plan inpatient requests for echo investigations, liaising with ward staff and clinicians to ensure availability of technical staff and resources.
  • Responsible for assessing, implementing, and adapting to new clinical techniques and technologies.
