Job summary
This is a new post arising at the Wexham Park Hospital site of the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust for a Consultant Physician with a special interest in Rheumatology. This is a substantive post and is full time,, although candidates unable to work full-time are also invited to apply.
The on call rota for General Medicine is 1:8. From Mondays to Fridays, during normal working hours cover for acute admissions is provided by the Acute Medicine consultants supported by the on call consultant physician covering 1pm -9.30 pm in the hospital. Outside of normal working hours (nights and weekends), the on call consultant physician covers both acute admissions and the rest of General Medicine in the hospital.

About us
Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, has approximately 520 acute beds with a full range of services including General Medicine and its sub-specialities (including a sub-regional Paediatric Rheumatology service), Paediatrics, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Otolaryngology, Oral Surgery and a sub-regional Plastic Surgery unit which has an extensive catchment area. There is a large Emergency Assessment Centre, built in 2019, comprising of the emergency department, acute medical unit and acute surgical unit, a new 12 bedded combined Intensive Care/High Dependency Unit, and a new theatre complex. A new 20 bedded Medical Assessment Unit opened in 1998 with subsequent expansion to 76 beds, and a 14 bedded Coronary Care Unit opened in January 2002 with subsequent expansion to 16 beds and a step-down ward to accommodate 24-hour percutaneous coronary intervention. There is also an excellent new rehabilitation department, a centralised laboratory, and diagnostic imaging including spiral CT scanners and MRI.

A commitment to in patient rheumatology referrals and support for the ambulatory care unit is expected as part of the post. Rheumatology clinics may be held in any of the trust sites and a special interest is encouraged.
