Job summary

This job is for a Consultant Neurologist at Frimley Park Hospital and the regional neurosciences centre at St Georges Hospital. The job is a full time post comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs).

Main duties of the job

3.33 general neurology outpatient clinics at FPH1.5 Ward referral sessions FPH1 weekly ward round and 1 Special interest clinic at St Georges Hospital (AMW).

About us

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust was established on the 1st October 2014. It has come about by the joining together of the 2 Foundation Trusts of Heatherwood and Wexham Park (established in 2007) and Frimley Park.The Trust comprises of 3 sites: Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot and Frimley Park Hospital.In addition, there are outpatient and diagnostic facilities at Aldershot Centre for Health, Fleet and Farnham Hospitals, St Marks Hospital in Maidenhead, King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor, as well as within Bracknell Forest and the Chalfonts. The post-holders responsibilities will be at the Frimley Park Hospital site which may include other outpatientvenues and at the regional neurosciences centre, St Georges hospital.

Job responsibilities

Regional on call rota for regional neurology at AMW- approximately 1:20 as a week once or twice a year (comprising out of hours phone cover and separately paid weekend ward rounds).This appointment will provide 7 sessions at Frimley Park Hospital and 3 at AMW.Three in four weeks 3 days are scheduled at FPH, for one in four weeks (with internal cover) 4 days will be at Frimley. An interest in developing acute neurology and/or headache services or movement disorders and experience with Botulinum toxin treatments would be desirable but not essential, as candidates with interests that complement the current four neurologists will be considered.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • oCCST in neurology or within 6 months of CCST with satisfactory PYA from Deanery.
  • Full GMC registration and a license to practice

Desirable

  • Higher degree eg MD PhD

Experience

Essential

  • Wide clinical experience of general management principles in adult neurology
  • oPrevious experience in participating in under graduate and post graduate teaching
  • Understand principles and participated in audit activity
  • oUnderstand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence based practice

Desirable

  • oInterest in developing headache and acute neurology services, or movement disorders and experience of Botulinum toxin treatments
  • To have completed a Training and Trainers course
  • Previous participation in MRCP & student teaching
