Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two whole time equivalent Consultant posts in Microbiology and/or Infectious Diseases, based at Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, and to also be a part of the Infection team within the wider Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Service. Post-holders will be encouraged to develop research and management interests.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will work alongside two other consultant colleagues, specialist nurses and pharmacists to consolidate and develop the clinical microbiology liaison supporting OHPAT (Outpatient Home Parenteral Therapy) and antimicrobial stewardship arms of our service as well as contribute to microbiology on call.

All duties are worked flexibly in conjunction with colleagues, and the needs of the service. In addition to core clinical microbiology duties, it is envisaged that the appointee will be actively engaged in clinical liaison and OHPAT. There are opportunities to work with MDTs in orthopaedics, diabetic foot, haematology, endocarditis all of which use OHPAT and the out-patient clinical infection service for follow up. Opportunities are available to work in collaboration with the current clinicians involved in clinical virology or acute medicine. The job plan will evolve according to the interests of the appointee and will be tailored, in discussion with colleagues, to take on departmental leadership roles such as Infection Prevention and Control Doctor, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Clinical Infection Lead and Laboratory Liaison Lead.
