Job summary

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust runs three nurseries providing care for pre-school children, mainly for NHS families and some local community children. The nurseries focus on high-quality, compassionate care to help children meet their Early Learning goals.

You will be based at Rainbow Nursery, Crawley and you will be part of a dedicated team focused on nurturing young minds and helping shape their bright futures as a nursery nurse in one of our NHS workplace nurseries, supporting parents while they work.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the Nursery Management team
  • To assist in the daily operation of the playroom for the assigned agegroup.
  • To support other Nursery nurses in their daily duties.
  • To work in partnership with parents and outside organisations.
  • Provide high-quality physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for all children at the nursery and contribute to service development

Job description

Job responsibilities

Communication and working relationships

a)Communicate with external organisations, agencies, childcare professionals, OFSTED, and parents using various methods, both verbal and electronic, and report back to the Nursery Management Team.

b)Communicate effectively with all staff members on various subjects.

c)To attend meetings when applicable.

d)To be able to interact with all children at their level.

3. Main tasks

a)Collaborate within a team, offering leadership, support, and delegation to all staff in the designated age group.

4. Main responsibilities

a)To be a representative of the nursery, and SCFT always.

b)To work as part of a team.

c)To maintain the standards of the nursery in conjunction with SCFT and Nursery policies and procedures.

d)To maintain the standards of the nursery with full regard to the Welfare Requirements as stated in the Early years foundation stage.

e)To ensure Health and Safety is consistently upheld in the designated playroom, nursery, and hospital premises.

a)To work with the Nursery Management team and Estates Department to promptly address building and maintenance needs for safety, by reporting required works to the management team in the assigned playroom.

b)To undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery.

Childcare

a)To work with all age groups in the nursery as required.

To provide an engaging curriculum of activities appropriate for the children in the Nursery, aligned with Ofsted requirements and tailored to each child's individual learning needs.

b)To ensure the inclusion of all children.

c)To have a good knowledge of child development, child legislation, Early Years Foundation stage, and to keep abreast of current trends in early years care.

Parents

a)To support and attend parents evenings and Parent Nursery Group meetings, when required.

b)To liaise with and support parents, carers, and family members during their child's nursery attendance, aiding the childs learning and development, while ensuring the allocated playroom team member does the same.

Administrative duties

a)All team members must record and report any accidents or incidents involving children or staff in the playroom at any time, including outside Nursery hours, to the Nursery Management Team.

b)To ensure a risk assessment for activities undertaken within the allocated playroom and nursery premises.

c)In the absence of any team members in the allocated playroom, make sure all children observations and next steps are covered.

d)Report to the Nursery management team any child reportable sickness.

e)To undertake training as required and to become involved in special projects as appropriate.

f)To support the development of the nursery teams within the allocated playroom.

g)To report to the Nursery management team any conversations or messaging from parents with regards to any finance dealings.

h)To promote good staff relations, support, maintain an efficient working team and effective communication within the nursery and the allocated playroom.

i)To attend team meetings inside and outside working hours and help write the agenda.

j)To support Trainee Nursery Nurses, students and other unqualified workers while in the nursery.

k)Identify and meet own and others training needs within the allocated playroom.

l)To support the Management Team in completing nursery inductions with all new staff, visitors and students. Including policies and procedures, health and safety, routines etc.
