Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the NHS England funded Chailey Communication Aid Service, for a Therapy Technical Assistant to join our multi-disciplinary team. You will be working with a team of highly specialist Clinical Scientists, Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and support colleagues who assess, provide and maintain power-based communication aids and access to technology for adults and children in Sussex and Surrey who meet the NHS England referral criteria.
This post is situated within a specialist communication aid service. The client group currently served have severe and complex communication difficulties and often associated complex physical disabilities. They require specific communication aids and technology to enable to them to access it which may need adaptations or bespoke design. The role is varied and no one day will be the same. One day you could be editing computer based equipment in a patients home, the next you will be working in the office, answering the phone and providing administrative support.
Main duties of the job
You will carry out specified and detailed tasks, monitoring and reviewing progress within a given criteria and modifying tasks within a defined range of choices. You will have the ability to use your own initiative on a frequent basis, as the supervising clinician will not always be on site. You will assist in preparation of training resources and paperwork with a Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Clinical Scientist andbe expected to provide support and training to clients and their families/carers on an individual or group basis and contribute to the training of local staff.
Work as a part of multi-disciplinary team providing an efficient and effective service to our clients, and be responsible for the logging and recharging of communication aids and switches, where appropriate. You will work within national and local guidelines and recognise your own professional boundaries and seek advice as appropriate. Providingsupport with the monitoring of stock levels and request new equipment as required, along withbeing responsible for the safe and competent use of resources and equipment used with clients such as assessment equipment and communication aids, ensuring equipment is cleaned regularly in accordance with SCFT Infection Control guidelines.
Will need follow procedures for the security, care and maintenance of equipment ensuring standards of infection control and safety are maintained, including equipment loaned to clients.
