Job summary

Community Nursery Nurse, Full and Part time opportunities to join our newly forming team serving the Asylum seeking families and Refugees in West Sussex.

We currently have vacancies for Community Nursery Nurses to join our new team within the Healthy Futures team based in Crawley West Sussex. You will be part of a small team offering the Healthy Child Programme to refugee families and families seeking asylum.

This is a County Wide Post and you will be required to travel to other parts of the County, with most of the work currently in the Crawley/Mid Sussex and Horsham areas.

We are looking for enthusiastic early years practitioners, with experience of working with the most vulnerable children and families experiencing a wide range of health and developmental needs as well as trauma and displacement . Experience in child development, parenting advice and breastfeeding is essential, as is an understanding of safeguarding and working with vulnerable families.

We are looking for a flexible, motivated and enthusiastic individual who can communicate effectively, and is able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Please note that there is considerable driving required for this post and you will need access to a car for work.

N.B. a qualification is required for this post: NNEB, NVQ L3 in Early Years and Education/Childcare, CACHE diploma, BTEC national diploma in Early Years/Childcare

Main duties of the job

You will be supporting the newly formed team in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) to children aged 0-5 years and their families in Asylum seeking and refugee hotels within West Sussex. Working alongside health visitors you will promote children's physical and emotional health and wellbeing, identify health, social or developmental concerns at the earliest opportunity and contribute to the aim for all children to have the best possible start in life.

Job responsibilities

As a community nursery nurse , you will work with health visitors, registered nurses, nursery nurses and administrators to deliver the Healthy Child Programme to children's and families from pregnancy to 5 years of age.

Under the supervision of the team lead, health visitors and registered nurses, you will:

- Provide evidence based 1-1 advice for children, young people and families on issues such as continence, healthy eating (including infant feeding), sleep routines, childhood immunisations and child safety.

- Provide health promotion advice and undertakes the weighing and measuring of babies & children at Healthy Child Clinics, interpreting and accurately recording this information

- Undertake developmental reviews of selected children not requiring a targeted service, under the supervision of, and reporting any concerns to the delegating health visitor / registered nurse- Participate regular clinical and line management supervision with delegated supervisor

- Deliver group health promotion sessions or teaching as directed- Work within the Pan Sussex Child Protection Procedures reporting any concerns appropriately and undertaking relevant in-service child protection training

- Assist the health visitor / registered nurses in providing appropriate support and experience for nursing and other students undertaking community placement
