Job summary
We are recruiting for a Nursery Nurse to work at Butterfly Nursery in Hove.
Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust nurseries are 3 workplace nurseries that provided full and part time day care for pre-school children. To deliver high quality compassionate care, within the nursery setting for the pre-school children of NHS parents, and some pre-school children from the local community. Working with a multi-disciplinary team to support children towards their Early learning goals. Working in Partnership with parents, carers, staff and outside agencies to provide as much flexibility as possible.To work as part of a team to provide high quality childcare, and support under the direction and supervision of senior nursery staff. This includes assisting in the on-going assessment and provision of childcare.
Ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care is provided for all children at the nursery(s) and to contribute to the development of the services.
Main duties of the job
- To be a representative of the nursery, and SCFT always.
- To work as part of a team.
- To maintain the standards of the nursery in conjunction with SCFT and Nursery policies and procedures.
- To maintain the standards of the nursery with full regard to the 'Welfare Requirements' as stated in the Early year's foundation stage.
- To ensure that Health and Safety is always observed on nursery premises, hospital site.
- To ensure any maintenance works are reported promptly to maintain safety, by reporting the necessary works to the management team.

General
- To work with Quality Assurance Programmes in the allocated rooms, and to help the nursery gain accreditations, certificates.
- To undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery.
Childcare
- To work with all age groups in the nursery as required, while leading a group of staff within the room.
- To ensure there is a curriculum of interesting and stimulating activities suitable to the age range of children attending the nursery.
- To ensure the inclusion of all children.
- To have a good knowledge of child development, child legislation, Early Years Foundation stage, and to keep abreast of current trends in early years care.
Parents
- To support and attend parents evenings when required.
- To liase with and support parent/carers and other family members, whilst their child attends nursery, to aid the childs learning and development, and ensuring the team member in the allocated playroom do this.
Administrative duties
- To ensure that any accidents and incidents of the children, at any time (even outside Nursery hours) are recorded.
- Make sure all key childrens observations and next steps are covered.
- Report to the Nursery management team any child reportable sickness.
- To support all colleagues in the allocated playroom with the planning and keeping up to date in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
Education and training
- To undertake training as required and to become involved in special projects as appropriate.
Finance
- To report to the Nursery management team any conversations or messaging from parents with regards to any finance dealings.
Staff leadership.
- To support Trainee Nursery Nurses during training, and be a good role modal.
- To support Students and other unqualified workers in the allocated playroom. Assist helping them to achieve the learning intentions of their courses.
- Identify and meet own and others training needs within the allocated playroom.
Other duties
- To undertake such other duties appropriate to the scope and grading of their post and/or as designated by the Nursery Manager.
