Job summary

The Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service in Brighton is looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with an interest in working with school age children and young people with a range of speech, language and communication needs. This role could be adapted for a Band 5 therapist looking for their first specialist (Band 6) role or an experienced band 6 looking to extend and develop their skills.

You would be based in our Mainstream Schools Service, which is lead by a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. You would also have access to support and second opinions from our Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapists in School-Age Autism, Stammering, Complex Needs and AAC and Deafness. The Mainstream Schools Team work in partnership with specialist teachers from the Brighton and Hove Inclusion Support Service. We deliver our service based on the Balanced Model and strive provide high quality targeted and specialist intervention.

We are committed to professional development and work closely with the Professional Lead for Children's Speech and Language Therapy. You will have regular supervision and access to termly clinical meetings and training. Recently team members have attended Intensive Interaction, Speech Sound Disorder, The Impact of Trauma on Language Development and conferences such as the NAPLIC Conference.

Main duties of the job

You will working with children and young people in mainstream primary schools. Opportunities for working in Secondary School are also available.

You will be responsible for managing a caseload providing assessment, advice and therapy for children/young people in schools in Brighton and Hove and training and advice to teaching staff and parents.

We have excellent admin support and all staff are provided with a laptop and mobile phone. All staff have access to additional equipment for their work such as iPads. As a team we are engaged in hybrid working with staff able to work both at base and at home as appropriate. We also offer flexible working including term time only and 9 day fortnights. This post is currently being advertised as a full time role, but we are open to applicants wishing to work part time. Moving expenses for applicants relocating from elsewhere in the country may be available and can be discussed at interview.
