Job summary
We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our Complex Needs Team and Mainstream Schools Team in Brighton and Hove. We are looking for a therapist who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs in a range of educational environments including our local "Outstanding" Complex Needs Schools. Our Mainstream Schools Team work collaboratively with a team of specialist teachers from the Brighton and Hove Inclusion Support Service. The post would suit an experienced Band 5 therapist looking for their first specialist role or an experienced Band 6 therapist looking for new challenges. We have clinical lead therapists in School Age Autism, Stammering, Complex Needs, AAC and Deafness who offer support, training and second opinions. While this post is currently being advertised as a full time role we are willing to consider part time options. We have an highly skilled and experienced admin team to support you in your work. Brighton and Hove is a vibrant and diverse city with easy access both beaches and countryside. We welcome informal visits prior to interview and existing team members are happy to answer questions you might have about the service prior to application.
Main duties of the job
As part of the Complex Needs Team you will responsible for a caseload of children and young people with complex communication, interaction and learning needs. You will be responsible for providing training for teaching staff and working as part of team with teaching staff to provide universal, targeted and specialist intervention. You will be supported by senior clinicians to use a range of communication strategies, adapting the to individual needs of the children and young people.
As part of the Mainstream School team you will be responsible for managing your own caseload within identified schools, providing assessment , advice and training as required. You will triage referrals to the service from your allocated schools and liaise with other professionals from education and health. You will provide information for Education Healthcare Plans. You will provide training on speech, language and communication with your colleagues from education. An ability to develop strong working relationships with education staff is essential.

If successful, you would receive an induction with opportunities for shadowing other team members. We have regular team meetings and clinical forums. We offer in-house training in a range of specialist areas and benefit from access to Trust funding for external courses when appropriate. We also have equipment budgets which enable the service to continually improve resources for assessment and therapy.
