Job summary

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will work as part of the project team for the new Velindre Cancer Centre (nVCC) under the direction of the Equipment Workstream Delivery Manager and working within the commissioning framework established by the Head of Commissioning and Activation, supporting the delivery of the commissioning programme for clinical equipment within the nVCC.
  • The postholder will provide expert advice and operational support to the Equipment Workstream in relation to planning, sourcing, installation, testing and commissioning of all medical devices necessary for the commencement of services wFFithing the nVCC, drawing on internal and external knowledge sources as appropriate.
  • The postholder will support the logistic planning and operation delivery of equipment installation and commissioning activities, ensuring alignment with the overall nVCC Commissioning and Activation Plan.
  • The postholder will support the logistics planning support role in relation to the technical planning, logistics coordination and commissioning of medical devices within the nVCC, ensuring effective integration with wider commissioning activities and any 'double running' period with services on the existing Velindre Cancer Centre site.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Relevant Masters level qualification, or equivalent.
  • In depth and highly developed specialist, professional and technical knowledge on medical devices, national standards, COP, MHRA and associated regulations.
  • Subject specialist knowledge in relation to a range of medical devices including electronic and imaging equipment used in healthcare/clinical settings.
  • In depth specialist knowledge of associated legislation, including health and safety.
  • Good level of experience in supplier management gained in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience of working in a Clinical Equipment Services environment.
  • Extensive experience of liaising with clinical staff in relation to medical devices.
  • Experience in commissioning healthcare facilities, including planning, coordination and verification of commissioning activities for clinical equipment and associated building services.
  • Knowledge of healthcare commissioning processes, including development of commissioning programmes, pre-installation checks, validation, testing and handover requirements prior to operational use.
  • An appropriate track record in specifying, evaluating and commissioning medical devices and in particular, medical electronic devices over a number of years.
  • Experience supporting the installation, testing and/or commissioning of medical equipment within healthcare environments

Desirable

  • Prince2 Project Management at a minimum of Foundation Level.
  • Experience of working in a Clinical Equipment Services environment at a time of change.
  • Experience of operating as a core member of a project team in the context of a project that included significant quantities of medical devices, including a significant number of electronic devices.
  • Experience of serving as the primary medical electronics advisor to users.
