Job summary

The post holder will work as part of the People and Organisational Development team to design, deliver and evaluate high quality,effective multidisciplinary training and education programmes, including mandatory and statutory training, and professionaldevelopment initiatives, meeting individual training and development needs .The post holder will provide advice and guidance to staff as required, supporting with eLearning activities and personal development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as the education lead in the delivery of training across the Trust, (including some hosted organisations) as listed below (N.B. list is not exhaustive and there may be a requirement to deliver additional training as and when a need is identified):

Environmental Awareness,

Handling Violence and Aggression,

Visual Display Equipment,

Welsh Language Awareness,

Trust management development package (including Appraisal, Managing attendance at work, Respect and Resolution, Recruitment and Selection and Stress Awareness)

Train the Trainer

The postholder will be responsible for ensuring that Education and Training is available in line with organisational and professional requirements, through supporting subject matter experts to complete Training Needs Analyses (TNA's) and using systems including, OLM, LMS365 and Trust Training Plan.

You will work autonomously, referring more complex matters to the People and Organisational Development Manager when required, working within agreed People policies and procedures.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities

Planning and Design

Required to manager own workload and use initiative when urgent tasks arise, reprioritising work where necessary.

Take responsibility for booking, use and security of the departments audio/visual equipment and teaching resources as necessary when under own supervision / use.

Proactively plan and coordinate attendance across Trust sites to minimise travel time.

Responsible for making decisions relating to amendment of published training course timetables (course, time, venue etc) in response to contributory factors (i.e. the number of candidate bookings received)

Responsible for managing a varied working week and for prioritising work independently to ensure that training / teaching duties are fulfilled alongside associated administration and information management.

Improvement and Monitoring

Ability to contribute and comment on policies within own department / sphere of work.

Ensure the delivery of high quality professional training by monitoring outcomes against defined training specifications and learning objectives

Contributes to development of programmes via feedback with learners, subject experts and the Workforce and OD function as appropriate

Be aware of issues discussed at National and All Wales forums relation to Core Skills Training Framework and eLearning.

Communication

Liaising with the Trusts People and OD Business Partners to ensure that training is delivered consistently and appropriately across all sites.

Communicate with staff and managers across the Trust in relation to eLearning promotion and implementation, including e-assessments.

Uses a high level of communication skills such as rapport, influencing, motivation and assertiveness to manage learners in a classroom environment when delivering information, to avoid barriers of understanding

The post holder will work closely with divisional management teams, corporate functions, and People & OD Colleagues, maintaining and developing effective and proactive communication links.

Work closely with managers and staff across the Trust to promote and enable maximum uptake of mandatory and statutory training and eLearning

Work directly with departments to deliver their specific needs in relation to mandatory and statutory training and professional development

Provide advice and guidance in line with the Trust, NHS Wales and appropriate external directives to inform Trust managers and learners in relation to their training requirements.

Act as Health and Safety representative for the People and Organisational Development department, attending meetings and undertaking risk assessments as and when required

Representing the Education and Development team and the Workforce and OD Function at both external and internal Velindre University NHS Trust meetings as appropriate to role

Finance and Budget

Responsible for the safe use storage/security of the departments audio/visual equipment and teaching resources as necessary when under own supervision / use

Management, Leadership and/or Training

Continually update own knowledge and skills to maintain understanding of current issues affecting service delivery, learning and development initiatives and opportunities

Contributes to promotion of lifelong learning to all Velindre University NHS Trust staff through workplace role-modelling and communication skills.

Develops the knowledge and skills of Velindre University NHS Trust workforce in relation to defined mandatory and statutory subjects through appropriate training needs, assessment, training and ongoing support where necessary

Contributes to staff development in accordance with individuals personal development plans via training delivery and other education activities undertaken

Responsible for assessing whether a learner has passed a course or should be referred for subsequent attendance

Responsible for advising internal subject matter experts in relation to possible improvements which can be made to existing teaching sessions.

Creation of course paperwork

Design and prepare training materials to aid the delivery of all training for new and existing courses

Use a range of training methods to motivate and meet the needs of different learning styles, ensuring use of blended approach to meet the varying needs

Educating staff from all areas of the Trust (incl. some hosted organisations) using a variety of appropriate teaching techniques, including presentation using Power Point, facilitation of group working, and using a range of assessments methodologies

Liaise with learning and development subject matter experts or leads (internal and external) to support the content design and delivery (including statutory and mandatory programmes) this includes facilitating the Trust trainers network.

Working in partnership with subject matter experts to collaborate on design of flexible and innovative delivery solutions tailored for delivery within departments including the use of eLearning and technology.
