Job summary

The Infection Prevention and Control Surveillance & Respiratory Protection Support Worker will work under the guidance of the Infection Control Nurses to provide targeted IPC training, IPC audits and respiratory protection support.

The role requires:

  • Work with minimal supervision using excellent organisational skills and administrative duties such as record keeping and accuracy in database entry, collating information and filtering of surveillance data.
  • Being extremely flexible, agile to reprioritise work plan in accordance with changing or emerging risk.
  • Requesting and collating information and creating simple reports to a pre-set format that will be used to inform assurance of infection prevention related performance.
    • Delivery of non-complex prescribed & pre-set IPC related training and support including 1-1 and group sessions (virtual and face to face) Work under the supervision of the IPC Registrants to take all relevant actions, including supporting operational teams and senior managers to take required action to prevent /reduce the spread of infection to keep patients, donors and staff safe

Main duties of the job

To work without direct supervision, but with guidance from an Infection Prevention & Control Registered Nurse in relation to delivery of set Infection Prevention & control work this includes:.

  • Undertaking a range of relevant IPC related audits across a number of different and sometimes complex settings, disseminate findings in a timely and risk based manner and record results accurately and securely, using approved Infection Prevention & Control systems of working e.g. MEG Audit tool
  • Prioritising workload to ensure IPC audit and training programmes are progressed in line with plan and changing / developing priorities.
  • Reporting all accidents/untoward occurrences and complaints to an Infection Prevention & Control Nurse as soon as possible. Promptly report concerns and risks verbally and by using the Trust's risk reporting mechanisms.
  • Undertaking a range of delegated clinical duties that support the delivery of the Infection Prevention & Control Service.
  • Undertaking other audits relating to Infection Control practice, as guided by IPC Nurse, e.g. during incidents/outbreaks of infection, etc.
  • Acting as a support to all Operational IPC Champions across all areas of the Trust
